Von E. Ten Obituaries – The Arizona Republic

Von E. Dix, 84, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died August 29, 2022. He was born April 22, 1938, in Harveyville, Kansas, to Harvey and Lois Dix. Von was the eldest of three children. He graduated in 1956 from Manhattan High School, Manhattan, Kansas. Von then attended Kansas State University and completed his studies at the University of Arizona. For six years he served in the Army National Guard. Von moved to Arizona in 1961. In 1966 Von built his first home in Scottsdale, doing most of the work himself. As president of Dix Corporation for 22 years, he was a leading luxury home builder with many developments. Von has become a Valley leader in the application of innovative construction techniques. In 1989, Von joined AM Homes as president of the company’s Arizona division. He was also president of Maracay Homes and Cameron Homes. In 2016, he completed his latest project, Trio Scottsdale Lofts. Von will be remembered as one of Scottsdale’s most active executives. For 10 years he served as a director of the Central Arizona Home Builders Association, including in 1980 as president. In 1982, Von served as president of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the board of directors of ScottsCom Bank; life member of the Scottsdale Charros; President of the Rotary Club of Scottsdale; and former president of the Foundation for the Handicapped. Additionally, he was chairman of the Charros committee that brought the tennis world championship to Scottsdale. Additionally, Von was the chairman of a Boys Club fundraiser to raise $2 million for the construction of a third Boys Club branch. As we celebrate Von’s remarkable life, his friends and family will remember and miss the patient and loving way he treated everyone he met. His love and dedication to his wife, children and grandchildren will always be treasured memories. At every opportunity, Von found time with his wife and family to enjoy boating, water skiing, biking, fishing, swimming, table tennis, and vacationing in Coronado, California. . Von is survived by his wife Brenda Wix; children: Cary Dix, Sheri Jacobson, Kevin Dix and Jamie Lucarelli; stepchildren: Trevor Wix and Cadence Wix; grandchildren: Regan Oelze, Tres Oelze, Morgan Dix, Jameson Lucarelli and Juliet Lucarelli; step-grandchildren: Gabriel Wix, Brandon Wix and Matthew Wix; and his sister Barbara Bock and his brother Roger Dix. Von was predeceased by his grandchildren Lauren Oelze and Connor Dix. A memorial service will be held at Scottsdale Bible Church, Grace Chapel, 7601 E. Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
