Vera Elisabeth Smith
Vera Elizabeth Smith, 92, died on April 30, 2022. She was a devoted wife, mother of 4, grandmother of 19 and great-grandmother of 18.
Vera (“Liz”) was born on July 10, 1929, in Columbus, Georgia, the second of three children born to David Canaan Jackson Owens and Marie Louise Chambless. Vera was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1953 Vera married LaVoy Moore of Murray, Utah, who died in 1956 in an accident in the U.S. Army Reserve. They had two children. In 1959 Vera married Donald Lindsey Smith of Auburndale, Florida, who became an FBI agent. They had two more children.
Vera was an ideal FBI wife through many moves that prioritized home and family and tirelessly served her church members and neighbors. She briefly worked part-time as a legal assistant and office manager. When Don retired in 1985, the couple moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
