Van Klinken semi-finalist for The Bowerman

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – After defending his NCAA discus crown and winning shot put silver, Jorinde van Klinken is once again a semi-finalist for the highest honor in collegiate athletics. The American Athletic and Cross Country Coaches Association today announced van Klinken as one of 10 semi-finalists for The Bowerman. Van Klinken was a semi-finalist for the same award last year after winning gold in the discus, bronze in the indoor shot put and taking the world lead in discus. In 2022, she won indoor shooting, won silver in outdoor shooting and defended her disc crown. Van Klinken and Camryn Rogers of California are the only Pac-12 semifinalists.

The finalists for The Bowerman will be announced on June 27. Bowerman’s winner will be announced Dec. 15 at the USTFCCCA convention in Aurora, Colorado. Arizona State has had four finalists since The Boerman’s inception in 2009. TurnerWashington was a finalist for The Bowerman last season.

Jorinde van Klinken is one of the most dominant pitchers to come through ASU, and she’s only competed for maroon and gold for two seasons now. The native of Assen, Netherlands, went a perfect 14-0 in two record seasons; she is a six-time All-American and a five-time First Team All-American; holds program discus record, ranks second in indoor shooting record and third in outdoor shooting; has three NCAA gold titles; and was an Olympian in 2020 for her country. Van Klinken is expected to compete at the European Championships in August before returning to Tempe for his final indoor season in the NCAA.
