Triathlon wins NCAA West Regional Qualifier

Stockton, Mo. Sun Devil Triathlon earned its ability to pick its starting position at the 2022 National Championships by beating the University of South Dakota, University of Denver and USF on Saturday morning.

Arizona State scored 123 points as a team in the West Regional National Qualifier for the NCAA Heartland Triathlon Cup. First-year student Heidi Jurankova (1:01:14) earned his first collegiate victory with junior Amber Schlebusch (1:01:14) followed in second place.

“It was a great team win for the Sun Devils today. They set themselves up for success and pushed each other to have the fastest time in every section of the race,” the coach said. -chief. english cliff said. “There was a lot at stake in the race and we put ourselves in the best possible position for the Championships.”

Jurankova, from the Czech Republic, posted the fastest time (17:49) and the second fastest time on the cycle (31:49) of the competition. Schlebusch was just behind Jurankova with a race time of 17:50.

The pair alone had 55 points for the Sun Devils.

Senior Freedom Ricca (1:01:57) and freshman Naomi Ruff (1:02:20) weren’t far behind the first pair as they finished third, fourth and fifth to complete the top five in qualifying.

Second year Alexe Coursol (1:03:06) and freshman Faith Dasso (1:03:09) finished 10th and 11th, respectively in freshman year Madison Judas (1:04:11) placed 15th. Sophomores Evan Welsh (1:02:41) and Camile Buchanan (1:02:50) did not score for the team today.

The Sun Devils will end the season in Tempe at Tempe Town Lake North Beach on Nov. 12 as they look to win six consecutive national titles for the program.
