The first Webb-Burbridge Classic will open the 2022 season

TEMPE, Ariz. — To kick off the 2022 season, Sun Devil Volleyball will host the inaugural Webb-Burbridge Classic August 26-27, a tournament named after two big names in Sun Devil.

The tournament’s name honors Sun Devil legends Tammy Webb-Leibl (1983-1986) and Amanda Burbridge (1997-2000), two All-Americans who are in the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame. Both will be honored during the tournament.

Two-time first-team All-American Webb-Leibl is all over the record books: For career stats, the middle tackle is fourth in takedowns, first in solo blocks, second in solo blocks and fifth for aces. Additionally, she was an All-Pac-10 player and was named Pac-10 Player of the Decade for the 1980s. She led the team to three NCAA tournament appearances (1983, 1985-86) .

Burbridge is a three-time All-Conference winner, once on the freshman team. The outside hitter was an All-American his senior season and was an academic All-American that same season. In the record books, she is fifth in career wins. She won the Pac-10 Conference Medal in 2001 and was VolleyCentral.com Co-National Player of the Year in 2000.

Arizona State will bring in Cal State Bakersfield, Northern Iowa and Toledo to start the season. The event will also serve as an alumni weekend for Sun Devil Volleyball, with several winners from all eras returning to Tempe. Bakersfield will participate in Alumni Weekend as its head coach is Giovana Melo, a Sun Devil alum who served as a setter for Arizona State from 2003 to 2004. She was a team captain her senior year and earned two the ASU. Additionally, she was an assistant coach for three years.

Subscriptions for the 2022 season are currently on sale. Tickets for individual and group matches for the season go on sale from Tuesday.
