Season for Sharing Supports Arizona Republic Solutions Journalism

Today we’re announcing that the Arizona Republic’s Season for Sharing campaign raised an incredible $1.8 million this year.

And we remind readers that 100% of that money goes back to the community through 164 charities that help struggling children and families, seniors struggling with housing and food, seniors struggling to live independently, low-income students who aspire to go to university. , teachers in need of supplies…and so many people struggling with the fallout of COVID-19.

Who do I mean by “we?” I mean you: the thousands of generous people who donated $20, $200, $2,000—or any amount—to Season for Sharing during the November-January fundraising period.

List of beneficiaries: The 164 subsidized associations.

Season for sharing: Helping the elderly, families in difficulty, education

Thanks to you, the few domestic violence shelters scattered across large swaths of Arizona are available as a safe haven for those in need.

Thanks to you, charities related to education and the arts can continue to fill the learning gaps caused by nearly two years of home schooling.

Thanks to you, foster children newly placed in homes or aging out of the system will be able to get the support – or the toothbrush – they need.

Thanks to you, refugees from Afghanistan, Somalia and around the world will have an easier time starting their new lives.

The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust – the legacy of the same Pulliam family that set up Season for Sharing in 1993 when they owned the newspaper – graciously provided matching funds again this year. The Trust does such a great job supporting environmental, animal and other causes. We thank them for the continued support.

The Pulliams believed the newspaper played a key role in the community, not only reporting the problems, but being part of the solutions. This spirit lives on in Season for Sharing.

Since 1993, nearly $72 million has been raised for charities that help our neighbors in need. The work they do uplifts us all.

To our donors: Thank you. We did it together. We should be proud.
