Obituary of Charles Eugene “Chuck” Burrus

Charles Eugene “Chuck” Burrus passed away on Saturday August 13, 2022 after a long illness. He was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of his death. Chuck was born in Farmington, New Mexico on May 7, 1944. His family moved to Flagstaff, AZ and in 1951 to Sedona where he grew up. He remained in Arizona for the rest of his years, leaving only to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy for 4 years. From an early age, Chuck was known as an outstanding athlete, excelling in swimming, basketball, track and field, tennis, and golf. He graduated from Verde Valley School in Sedona as a member of Class 62, a bond he maintained throughout his life. He briefly attended ASU before enlisting. After completing his service, Chuck enrolled in NAU, where he earned a degree in business administration. He always wanted to work for himself and eventually formed Arizona Commercial Cleaning, serving Valley of the Sun businesses for over 40 years. During his time in the Navy, he took up golf and developed a passion for the sport that stayed with him throughout his life. He won numerous golf tournaments and awards beginning with the Club Championship in Sedona at the Village of Oak Creek Country Club in 1972. For several years he repeatedly attempted to qualify for the senior circuit and was invited to qualifying for the Senior British Open in 2001. Chuck is survived by his partner of 30 years, Ellen Ames, his mother, Betty of Carefree, his brother Bill of Tucson, as well as his nephews, nieces and stepchildren. A Celebration of Life in memory of Chuck will be held Sunday, October 9 at 4:30 p.m. at Papago Golf Course. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to Verde Valley School in Sedona, Arizona.
