Scottsdale – Dearing, Jeanne Louise (O’Brien) passed away peacefully at her home in Scottsdale, AZ on April 1, 2022. After a recent stroke, she was welcomed into heaven. Jeanne is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: James (Laura), Thomas (Terri), Timothy (Kathi), Vicki Sweeney & Michael (Linda). Jeanne is also survived by her 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Jeanne was born on April 7, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to Mary Ellen and Francis Robert O’Brien. She was the older sister of her best friend and brother, Bishop Thomas J. O’Brien. Jeanne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Marian College (now Marian University) in 1943. Marian University was opened as a women’s college by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes (CSA) after ‘they were forbidden to wear their habits in public schools. Jeanne then married the love of her life, Victor Joseph Dearing in 1952, started their family and moved to Arizona in 1957. They completed their family in 1963 with the birth of their 5th child. Jeanne has been noted for her career in music, including teaching and conducting. She instilled in her children the gift of music. She created and was proud of her boys’ barbershop singing group who sang professionally. The peak of her career was when she directed it [Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH)] choir for Pope John Paul II’s iconic 1982 visit to ASU Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Mrs. Dearing was loved by OLPH parishioners for her dedication to her Catholic faith and her cheerful attitude. Her choir once included 120 singers but she has outlived almost all of them! She never missed Sunday Mass or a holy day of obligation. After retiring with Vic, they enjoyed going on cruises, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She called her children every day and saw them often. When asked “The Oprah question, what do you know for sure”? She answered; “Always have love in your heart”! A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. and a rosary from 7 to 8 p.m. at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Thursday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Saint-François cemetery.
