Everything Sun Devils coach Herm Edwards said ahead of fall camp

Arizona State enters pivotal year under coach Herm Edwards. In his first four seasons at the helm, the Sun Devils have yet to win more than eight games and finish no better than second in the Pac-12 South.

Most projections have Arizona State squarely near the bottom of the Pac-12 preseason standings. The program is embroiled in an ongoing NCAA investigation that has led to the firing of three assistant coaches and an exodus of talent to the transfer portal. And yet, Edwards is excited — and even optimistic — about his fifth fall camp with the Sun Devils, which begins Wednesday.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to start playing football,” Edwards said during a meeting with the media before fall camp. “It starts on Wednesday. We can actually go out on the grass and do what we do – coach and practice. That’s the greatness of football. It really is. That’s when you can just go out there, We’re going to do what we love to do. Our players are delighted to have the opportunity to play on grass.”
