Dad went to East Aurora High, where he and Carleen met and later married. He worked at the Finch and McCullouch Printing Company in Aurora and later worked at the Chicago Tribune. Dad then moved his wife, Carleen and three children, Eddie, Brad and Sara to Phoenix, AZ in 1961 to work at the Republic & Gazette where Gene Pulliam had just started the paper. A year later, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Susan, and their family was complete.
Dad was president of the Phoenix Typographical Union in the early 70s, which explains his demand that Mom always buy school clothes with a union label.
Our Dad, since retiring after 33 years working at the Republic & Gazette newspaper, has faithfully read the Obits every day because he loved their story and he checked to see if his name was in the Obits – Dad, your name is FINALLY listed .
Dad had served as an elder, served on several church boards, and was a bass in Grace Ev’s choir. Lutheran Church, of which he was a member for 61 years.
Dad always had time to talk or take your call…even if he was too busy right now, you would never have known. Dad has never known a stranger and his beautiful smile lights up a room. Dad loved his wife, his family and above all, his Lord.
Mom and Dad recently moved to MorningStar at Golden Ridge Senior Living – where Dad was able to make sure Mom was safe and he went peacefully to join the Lord from there.
