Carolyn Adele Harper Obituary – The Arizona Republic

Carolyn Adele Harper

Phoenix – Adele met Jesus and Grandpa again on December 5, 2021.

Born March 4, 1939 in Coolidge, Arizona to Jay and Thelma Vensel. She grew up in Prescott, Arizona and graduated from Prescott High School.

Adele married the love of her life John Houston Harper Jr. on July 7, 1957 in Prescott AZ. Life took them to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1961 where she raised three crazy boys, really maybe four! John and Adele never missed an opportunity to cheer on their sons, after all, she was their biggest fan.

Adele’s involvements included being active in the Lazy J’s (Scottsdale JC’s Women’s Auxiliary), Scottsdale Boys Club Auxiliary and Phoenix Zoo docent.

Her love was found in gardening and flower arranging. She was active in FTD and regularly attended meetings and conventions. Adele has expanded Harper’s Flower Shop to four locations in the Valley. Nothing ruffled her more than when someone called the store and asked a “man” from the nursery to talk to her – no, she knew everything.

Adele was part of trail running groups, and it was a hobby she and John often did in their marriage. Later in life, their hobby and time together was spent tending to the church rose gardens.

Her hands worked best creating flower arrangements, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens (peonies being her favourite), cooking her famous green chili and beans, completing the crossword section of the paper and cradling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Adele was a caretaker of all and you would find her spending the most time with her family and friends, serving others beyond measure. She was always the first to respond to any need anyone might have.

Well done Good and Faithful Servant!

Perhaps what Adele enjoyed most was making memories with her family, and her favorite hat to wear was the title “Gram.” Whether it’s taking her granddaughters to the Nutcracker ballet every year, hosting Santa Claus and Christmas carols, making tamales, Easter egg hunts, shopping and lunch, cheering on the boys at their sporting events and countless family dinners. Her memories will live on in the many traditions she created for her family.

Adele is survived by brothers Ken (Liz), George (Linda), sons John (Trina), Jeff (Lynette), Jerry (Lynn) and grandchildren Travis, Jaymi, Jessica, Lindsey, Paul, Corey and Hannah and 6 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at La Casa De Cristo Lutheran Church, 6300 E. Bell Rd. Scottsdale Thursday, December 16 at 4:00 p.m.
