Arizona State women’s basketball continues California road trip

Arizona State (12-9, 4-4 Pac-12) at California (10-8, 1-6 Pac-12), Wed., Feb. 16, 2 p.m., Pac-12 Networks, KAZG (2:40 p.m.) — Arizona State is coming off a split series against then-sixth-place Arizona. The Sun Devils struggled to generate their starters’ offense in the road game against Arizona, but ASU tied with Arizona with 1:33 left in the game. ASU relied on guards Jaddan Simmons and Mael Gilles, who both added 16 and 15 points for offense. Gilles led with five rebounds, but had previously recorded 10 in Friday’s game. Leading scorer Jade Loville struggled in the previous game, scoring eight points on three of seven shots. Guard Taya Hanson failed to score on four field goal attempts.

California is the only Pac-12 school to have played fewer conference games than Arizona State. The Golden Bears have been riddled with postponements due to COVID-19 protocols throughout conference play. However, California has played its last four meetings and was 1-4 in that streak. California is headlined by freshman guard Jayda Curry. Curry, a four-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week selection, went five-for-12 with 15 points in California’s 80-75 overtime loss to Utah. Curry leads the conference with 19.3 points per game. The game against California marks the second of four road games in eight days.
