In these difficult and divisive days, we are fortunate to have journalists like Nick Martin, editor and writer of The Informant, a publication dedicated to tracking the many hateful extremists that plague the country.
Unlike many of us in the news business, Martin is willing to dive deep into the internet’s lower gut, the dark, fetid gut of social media that must be explored in order to find and expose those who spew the most harmful and repugnant doublespeak. .
For example, Arizona State Senator Wendy Rogers.
Some time ago, the Arizona Senate – Democrats and Republicans alike – censured Rogers for a speech she gave at a white nationalist conference calling for public hangings and for her hideous social media attacks on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
She claimed at the time that it was an attack on her freedom of speech, a concept Rogers never quite understood.
And that’s still not the case.
Freedom to vomit hateful attacks
After all, the fact that you can complain publicly about an attack on your freedom of speech actually proves that you still have freedom of speech.
Still, she continued her rant. And keep on ranting. And continues to attract contributions that share his hateful and conspiratorial beliefs.
Just recently, Martin noticed something Rogers posted on the far-right social media site Telegram (founded by a Russian billionaire).
“Freedom of expression is a human right granted by God. Companies and governments that go against this go against the rights that are the essence of humanity.
And followed it with:
“The evil vile satanic demons who post evil pictures and videos on my channel have a special place in hell for their evil. Get behind me Satan!
Martin noted that Rogers apparently deleted posts she deemed “mean.”
If Rogers believes freedom of speech is “God-given,” then isn’t he free to everyoneor even “evil vile satanic demons”, which in his mind probably include Democrats and journalists?
Free speech is a concept Rogers will never understand, mainly because she only wants it to be free for those she agrees with.
It’s actually quite the opposite.
Foul odor tolerance
Freedom of speech means tolerating even those whose speech is nauseating and despicable.
For example, no one stopped Rogers from calling white nationalists at the America First political action conference in Florida “patriots.”
As she did.
Likewise, she was free to sing the praises and express her love for the group’s racist and anti-Semitic leader, Nick Fuentes, who told rally attendees, “Now they’re going to say, ‘Vladimir Putin is Adolf Hitler.’ . “, as if that was not a good thing.”
Rogers was free to tell fellow congressmen, as she did, “I will personally destroy the career of any Republican who participates in my gaslighting simply because of the color of my skin or my opinion on a war that I don’t want to send. our children to die there.
She was free to label her fellow legislators as communists, as she did.
She was also free to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who bravely resisted Russian aggression, “a globalist puppet for Soros and the Clintons.”
Another little gem from Rogers.
Stop these inner demons
The censorship she received did not interfere with her freedom of speech in any w
The US government does not and cannot punish anyone for such speech.
In fact, the only person who seems to put limits on free speech is Rogers, who seems to be dealing with all sorts of creepy inner demons.
But don’t want to hear what they have to say.
