Arizona State football wins Penn State’s OL Des Holmes

Arizona State’s football program continues to recharge through the transfer portal, today adding two offensive linemen – Des Holmes of Penn State and Emmit Bohle of Division II Northern State (South Dakota).

Holmes, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, was a substitute player at both tackle and guard for 32 games. He has one season left of eligibility. He is already registered but has just made his intention public on social networks on Wednesday evening.

Bohle, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound, started out as a tight end at Selby Area High School, but further growth spurts saw him move to the offensive line when he moved up to Division II of the League. Northern State.

The additions bolster a unit in need of reinforcements with the Sun Devils graduating from two starters in Kellen Diesch and Henry Hattis, who were both additions to the transfer portal two years ago, as well as Dohnovan West who declared for the NFL Draft after his just-completed junior. season.

Holmes’ college career has been mostly as a substitute with injuries preventing him from challenging for more playing time. He played 10 games as a reserve in 2021 and all 13 games as a sophomore as a redshirt in 2019. He has only played four games in 2020 due to injuries.

Last season, he moved from tackle to guard but was sidelined for most of spring training with a foot injury and never fully developed.

Holmes was a three-star prospect for Cardinal O’Hara High School in 2017. He chose Penn State over offers from others, including Maryland, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

He helped the Lions win the Catholic League Blue Division title with a 10-1 mark in his senior season, highlighted by selections as Class 4A Lineman of the Year and Pennsylvania Football News Class 4A All-State First Team.

He was ranked Pennsylvania’s 13th-best player and 64th-best offensive tackle by 247Sports as well as the No. 14 Pennsylvania player, No. 94 prospect in the region, and No. 62 offensive tackle by ESPN.

Bohle was a two-year starter in 2019 and 2021 with the 2020 season canceled due to COVID. He has two seasons of eligibility left and is expected to sign up for classes in the coming days so he can compete in spring football.

He was honored with all conferences in the second-team NSIC North Division last season at left tackle and selected ASU over offers from Illinois State, North Dakota, Utah. Sacramento State and Weber State.

ASU had a small signing class in high school in December, but head coach Herm Edwards has said repeatedly that he plans to meet the biggest needs through transfer additions with 10 to 15 players. going through this route.
