A look at the final Arizona Republic Men’s High School Football Super 10 standings, regardless of conference:
Soccer Boys Super 10
No. 1 Phoenix Brophy Prep Broncos 22-2-1
They end the season where they started, ranked No. 1 by the Arizona Republic. Once again, forward Francesco Montanile, player of the year last year, was the man who led the Broncos to a 2-1 6A Championship win over Scottsdale Chaparral.
No. 2 Phoenix Carl Hayden Falcons 23-2
They captured their first 5A State Championship, ending it with a convincing 3-0 win over Tucson Sunnyside in the Finals. They have won their last 14 games.
No. 3 Scottsdale Chaparral Firebirds 14-3-1
The only Arizona team to at least not lose to Brophy during the regular season, finishing in a 1-1 draw in mid-January. They picked up a 2-1 double-overtime win over Mesa in the first round, kicking off their run to the title shot.
No. 4 Tucson Sunnyside Blue Devils 24-2
Their only loss to an Arizona opponent came in the state finals. They hadn’t allowed more than two goals in a game, before Carl Hayden scored three in the state championship game.
Chandler Hamilton Huskies No. 5 15-4-4
Fast and physical team that saw its season end in the 6A semi-finals at Chaparral, 1-0. It was coach Lance Thompson’s last game, before taking on an administrative position at a college.
No. 6 Glendale Ironwood Eagles 14-4-1
One of Tim Beck’s bravest sides, reached the 5A semi-finals, before losing to eventual champion Carl Hayden 1-0 in overtime. Their four losses were each by one goal.
No. 7 Phoenix Washington Rams 23-4
Won their last nine games en route to their first state championship since 1989, beating Phoenix Arcadia by one goal in the 4A Finals. Senior Juan Cazares led the way with 22 goals and nine assists. A huge turnaround from a 4-14-1 2018 season.
No. 8 Mesa Red Mountain Lions 18-4-2
They were expected to beat Phoenix Pinnacle in a qualifying match, before being seeded 12th in the 6A tournament. They shut out No. 5 Sandra Day O’Connor in the first round, beat a Yuma Cibola side that knocked out No. 4 Tolleson, before losing to No. 1 Brophy Prep 2-0 in the semifinals.
No. 9 Peoria Sunrise Mountain Mustangs 18-2
Seeded fourth in the 5A tournament, they reached the semi-finals, only to lose to Sunnyside 5-2 to end a six-game winning streak. Their only other loss of the season was against Ironwood.
No. 10 Phoenix Arcadia Titans 16-5-1
They upset No. 1 seed Douglas in overtime in semifinal 4A, before running into a circular saw in Washington in the state final, losing 2-1.
