Here’s the latest Arizona Republic Women’s High School Football Super 10 through January 15, which lists the top 10 teams overall, regardless of conference. These rankings will be updated throughout the remainder of the season (Note: records reflect conference games, but not all games played, such as tournaments):
1. Liberty Lions, 7-0
The Lions have allowed just four goals in seven straight games. Notable wins include 3-0 over No. 2 Perry, 2-1 over No. 6 Hamilton and 4-0 over No. 9 Sunnyslope. Liberty’s opponent rating rose more than three points from last week due to their big 2-1 win over Hamilton.
2. Campo Verde Coyotes, 7-0-1
The AIA’s top-ranked 5A team and reigning 5A State Champions picked up two more wins last week at home. Campo Verde beat Sunrise Mountain 2-0 and Desert Mountain 3-2.
3. Notre Dame prep Saints, 5-0
The Saints remain undefeated and sit in first place in Conference 4A, knocking out all of their opponents in their five conference games. Four of their victories have been against teams ranked in the AIA’s top 20. Notable non-conference wins include 1-0 over No. 3 Chaparral and 2-1 over Campo Verde, the AIA’s top-ranked 5A team, at last month’s Coyote Classic tournament. .
4. Pumas Perry, 5-1
Perry’s only loss was inflicted by No. 1 Liberty. The Pumas dominated on offense in their final game last week against the North Mustangs, claiming a 15-0 win.
5. Chaparral Firebirds, 4-0-2
Chaparral showed his resilience in their overtime win over the then No.1. 4 Red Mountain last week. The Firebirds haven’t faced the easiest opponents and will continue to face the top-ranked 6A teams for the rest of the season – hoping to make their sixth consecutive Championship appearance.
6. Casteel Foals, 6-0
The Colts continue to shut down their opponents’ attacks, allowing no points to score against them in their 2-0 win over Centennial last week. Casteel allowed just one goal all season.
7. North West Christian Crusaders, 6-0
The Crusaders are no strangers to being undefeated, as they finished last year’s regular season 12-0 and won the 3A state championship. Northwest Christian seems to be on the same path this season.
8. Benjamin Franklin Chargers, 7-0
The Chargers are the AIA’s second 3A team. The Chargers outscored their opponents 88-2, but their average opponent rating is very low at -0.7070.
9. Flagstaff Eagles, 7-0
The Eagles have amassed a total of 15 points in their last two games against Glendale and Deer Valley. The undefeated Eagles are currently the No. 2 4A team in the AIA and are looking to pursue another playoff run.
10. Prescott Badgers, 7-0-1
The Badgers are also in the running for the 3A playoffs. Since Prescott’s first-week tie, he’s won every game by three or more points.
Others to note: Queen Creek, Desert Vista, Hamilton, Arcadia, Higley, Youngker, Phoenix Country Day, Sabino.
