Alfredo ‘Buddy’ Durán Obituary – The Arizona Republic

Alfredo ‘Buddy’ Durán was born in Tempe, AZ on September 13, 1955, and died on September 1, 2022, after a two-year battle with cancer. Buddy is predeceased by his parents, José Diaz Durán, Elisa Estrada Durán, half-brother and sister, Jesus Durán, and Dolores Durán (Cesar). Buddy is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Laura Casas Durán, his three children, Josè Ramón Durán (Ashley), Paul Martín Durán, Alexandra Kim Durán, his grandchildren Legend and Delilah Durán, and his five sisters Lilia Durán Holguin, Josephine Durán Gomez (Ruben), Rosemarie Durán Lopez (Joe Eddie), Elisa Durán Ortiz (Johnny) and Esther Durán Lumm (Randolph). Buddy graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1973 and went on to community college and attended ASU before accepting a full-time position as a payroll and tax specialist with Garrett AiResearch & Allied Signal & Honeywell. He was employed by the company for over 36 years where he made lifelong friendships and was always there to help and assist his peers in any way. After retirement, Buddy was able to spend more time playing his favorite sport, golf, with his many friends and family. Buddy loved spending time with his family and friends, taking vacations, going to the movies, and babysitting his grandchildren with his wife. He was very kind, funny, generous and had a natural ability to make new friends wherever he went. He lived his life always sharing his positive vibes, with the best smile and a loving heart. He will always be remembered as everyone’s favorite “pal”. Buddy was very active in the community as a member of the AZ Democratic Party Precinct and State Committee, member of the AZ Hispanic Community Forum, AFSCME Retiree Member, and Board Treasurer. 3121 of the Knights of Columbus. Buddy’s funeral services will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 1730 W. Guadalupe Rd., Mesa, AZ, 85202, with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. and a mass at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life reception from noon to 4:00 p.m. will be held at Knights of Columbus Chandler KC Hall, 644 E. Chandler Blvd., Chandler, AZ 85225. Doors will open at 11:00 a.m., with prayer and lunch at noon.
